About
It all started when…
Patrick grew up on the slopes of Soelden, Austria, skiing one of Austria’s largest ski fields right from his front porch. At age 3, his mom would tell him to come home for lunch when the church bell rings. When the lifts would eventually stop at the end of each day, he would return home and ask "Did the bell ring?"
His ski racing “heros” were the Crazy Canucks.
Patrick attended Stams, an Austrian race academy where he was a member of the powerful Austrian National Downhill Team. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury to his spine in a crash at a Europa Cup downhill race in Japan in 1989, which ended his race career & ski racing dreams early.
After recovering, Patrick attended the prestigious Bundessportheim in Obergurgl, Austria, where he admits is when he "really learned how to ski.” There, he earned the highest ski instruction accreditation and is an Instructor of Ski Instructors & Ski Coaches.
His passion for ski racing quickly turned into his passion for coaching. He has worked as a coach and as Alpine Director for Austria, Canada and USA National Ski Teams, coached 5 Winter Olympic Games and has coached some of the biggest names in ski racing history including Lindsey Vonn, Julia Mancuso, Mikaela Shiffrin, Ted Ligety, Beni Reich, Mario Matt, Steven Nyman and Bode Miller to name a few. Patrick’s athlete’s have won 16 Olympic medals, over World Championship Medals, over World Cup podiums and FIS Alpine Ski Globes under his leadership.
His biggest smiles are when he is on the top of a mountain at sunrise.
Some advice to ski racing hopefuls? “Control what you can control and don’t worry about the things you can’t control.”
Patrick is an avid golfer and was thrilled to cover two U.S. Master’s Tournaments in Augusta, GA for the Austrian Associated Press.
Patrick lives in Heber City, UT and is married to wife, Jodi and they have one daughter, Raina.
